Within a month, my wife was in the ER twice in the span of three days with breathing problems caused by mold spores growing in the apartment. We suspect that it was growing in the air handler because of obvious water problems in the furnace room (see pictures). We had doctors orders to move out of the property, and asked the office to clean the duct work before breaking our lease. Ultimately, they decided that it wasn't their problem, and I was forced to move my wife out of state because she COULD NOT live in the apartment. You'll see in the last picture, about 40% of the particulate matter in the air of our apartment was mold.
We signed for a lease with this company last-minute because we needed a place to stay for college. The complex looked alright, and the unit we were originally going to get looked great. We ended up in a different one, that was obviously not cleaned and had roaches. So we called for them to clean and spray for roaches so that we could move in. A couple weeks go by and the place is still uncleaned and the roaches are still there. So we do a little bit of our own pest control so that we can at least live there. For four months, we fought roaches until we finally took care of it ourselves, because they weren't going to do anything but "spray", which did absolutely nothing. We called for them to do more, but they would only have their guy come out and spray, which you'd think after five sprays and no difference they'd be willing to accept that it was a bigger problem and they needed to bring out the big guns. Once we called confronting them about that, Carol didn't believe that we could still be dealing with roaches. She made up some story about how one of us brought home a gun cabinet and found roaches (My roommate and I don't have a gun cabinet so maybe someone else was also having roach problems, which wouldn't surprise me), and nearly accused us of being the reason that they were there, despite them being there before us.
I'd like to start this review by telling you about Carol. If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Carol, you wouldn't be surprised if you heard she won the Olympic gold medal for terrible customer service. Doing her job seems like a major inconvenience and she is extremely rude over the phone. She acts as if everything is the tenants fault, and even gets her stories mixed up. More on that later. The other lady is nice, but doesn't really tell you anything about the apartments, just opens the door for you to look around.
I will never sign a lease with Home Locators again, nor will I ever recommend them unless you have NO OTHER OPTION. Don't be like my roommate and I and ignore the reviews, thinking that it's just the people who are the problem. Our current landlords are a thousand times better, and we have no issue with them, or them with us. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for apartments.
They don't understand losing a loved one in the family. Called them and left a message stating I had to rush home due to my father being deathly ill, and still charged me for late rent.
The woman that answers the phone in the office is extremely unprofessional! After answering a question which she acted "put out" she then hung up on me - no good bye - thanks for calling- nothing. I thought for sure this was a mistake so I called back. I told her we must have been disconnected because it did not seem like the call was completed. She says, "Uh, Huh" I said well thank you have a good day - good bye and she says. Uh huh - "click" Hey, here's a tip! If you don't like your job - look for another one. Your job is customer service... You are not doing them any favors - no wonder people are looking for a new place to live. Happy Friday!
Oh, and to cap it all off, I got charged a $68 cleaning fee after moving out in addition to the state-required carpet cleaning fee. My advice: never rent from these people. EVER. You'll have no legal recourse to recover any damages they are clearly responsible for, despite the fact that they lack any compunction to do the moral thing, let alone the humane thing.
Horrible experience with the office staff. Carol actually hung up on my when requesting that we have the front door repaired because you can see through the door, which is a huge safety concern. I am not looking for reasons to talk to anyone in this office, but I do expect that things in my apartment be prepared and repaired when needed. I hope that whomever owns this business takes a look soon at how people who are paying them are being treated by their staff.
These are quite possibly the worst people to do business with on the planet. Aside from being shown a different property than the one we leased, the property we did get was in this kind of shape. Quite frankly, it's an atrocity. The pictures detail the condition our apartment was in on the day we moved in, after we were told that it was supposed to have been cleaned and the carpets were cleaned. I just wish I could have gotten a picture of the 1" of dirt accumulated on the air filter for the air handler.
